NYFL is the Traditional Owner organisation dedicated to building a legacy of prosperity and wellbeing for our community. Founded in 1998, we are committed to empowering social, economic and cultural prosperity among the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people, the Ieramugadu (Roebourne) community, and beyond.

Our Community

Our Team

NYFL is guided by a dedicated team, including our Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi Board of Directors, executive, and amazing staff, who are passionate about empowering the community. Together, we are committed to advancing the interests of Ngarda-ngarli (Aboriginal people) and creating pathways for success.

Headquartered in Ieramugadu (Roebourne) in the Pilbara region of Western Australian, our members belong to lands of the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi peoples, which span over 11,000 square kilometres of Ngurra (Country). Our focus is on our members, and Ieramugadu. Our community is made up by many different language groups, and we strive to support Ngarda-ngarli (Aboriginal people) as our Juju-ngarli (senior men)and Jarda-ngarli (senior women) taught us. Our community is rich in cultural traditions and history, and we are deeply connected to our Ngurra (Country) and Gallharra (culture). Despite the trauma and challenges, we take a strengths-based approach, and celebrate and empower our people, who demonstrate strength, resilience and cultural richness.

Since entering into a Land Access Agreement in 1998, NYFL has been the representative body for Traditional Owners in dealings with the Woodside-operated North West Shelf (NWS) Project. Although NYFL holds a Land Access Agreement with the project, it does not receive royalties under that agreement, nor does it receive royalties from any mining or resource company.

We are committed to protecting the rights, interests and cultural heritage of our people and ensuring our voices are heard in matters that affect our Country.
