Social Impact

At NYFL, we make a positive difference in our communities. Through our diverse initiatives, we celebrate cultural strength, empowerment, and foster economic resilience.
We believe in self-determination and working together with our community. NYFL is a strong advocate for Indigenous rights at local, regional, and national levels. We make sure First Nations’ voices are heard in important decisions to create an equitable society.

Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura (WY) Program

Our Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura (WY) Program is all about empowering the next generation on their journey. We provide tailored and culturally safe education, training and job opportunities for young people and adults. This helps our people, who often face significant barrier, to gain the skills they need to thrive economically while keeping their cultural identity strong.

The Ieramugadu Store

The Ieramugadu Store is one of the only 100 percent Aboriginal community owned ‘social supermarkets’ in Australia. It is more than a place to shop—it’s a for those facing food insecurity to shop with dignity. Food and goods can be accessed for free or low-cost, and proceeds are put back into the community. As part of the Ngarluma Aboriginal Sustainable Housing (NASH) project, the Ieramugadu Store plays an important role in the sustainability of the region

Data Sovereignty Project

The Data Sovereignty Project shows our commitment to First Nations’ rights. By governing our own data, we are able to make informed decisions about our community and people. We provide data governance frameworks, and safeguard our data, making sure it stays under Indigenous control, in line with the rights expressed by the United Nations.
