About the WY Program

Warrgamugardi Yirdiyabura means ‘pathways to employment’ in local language. It was coined by our Elders in the 1990s. Most people call it ‘The WY Program’, as we know it isn’t easy for everyone to say! The program empowers our people who face significant barriers t oemployment and training. Overcoming barriers requires a culturally intelligent and safe program, led by Elders and the First Nations community. The program supports our people to be who they want to be; from rangers, to lawyers, or artists. It is tailored to the individual.

Since it started in 1998, the program has been vital for community growth. WY provides hands-on training in different fields, helping participants earn recognised qualifications and essential skills.
